During her university years, Mònica Fornells, a graduate in Audiovisual and Multimedia Communication from the Escola Universitària de les Arts ERAM – UdG, became interested in art direction, exploring her ability to create unique visual aesthetics and impactful narratives. This curiosity led her to specialize in the audiovisual field, working in fiction, music videos, advertising, and set design.
Currently, Mònica Fornells works as an art director on projects of various formats, where she combines a creative vision with a distinctive and contemporary style. She has participated in major productions, such as the commercial for the 16th Gaudí Awards for the Catalan Film Academy and the Generalitat de Catalunya’s campaign against school bullying.
In the music industry, she has worked as an art director for music videos of renowned artists such as Oques Grasses (Com està el pati), Ginestà (Em bategues), La Bien Querida (La perra del hortelano), and Queralt Lahoz (Alto cielo), the latter being a hybrid project between a music video and a short film. Additionally, she has worked on stage designs for musical tours, such as Suposo que l’amor és això by Ginestà. She has also directed the visual project Marrana i Sensible, an exploration of femininity in the postmodern meme era.
Her art direction is characterized by a highly curated aesthetic, where she combines everyday elements with atmospheres rich in symbolism and visual contrasts. She plays with light, colors, and spaces to build powerful narratives, whether through a hyper-realistic and cinematic style, as seen in Oques Grasses’ Com està el pati music video, or through a more conceptual and transgressive staging, as in La perra del hortelano by La Bien Querida.
