Arnau Gifreu awarded the VII Extraordinary Doctoral Prize-UPF
Arnau Gifreu has been awarded the VII Extraordinary Doctoral Prize by the Department of Communication at UPF (2016). For his thesis “Interactive Documentary as a New Audiovisual Genre: Study of the Emergence of the New Genre, Approach to its Definition, and Proposal of Taxonomy and an Analysis Model for Evaluation, Design, and Production.”
In his thesis, Gifreu proposes an analysis of interactive documentary as a new audiovisual genre with characteristics unique to the logics of production, exhibition, and reception compared to traditional documentaries. Through a general state of the art and a sample of significant cases.
Gifreu develops a conceptual framework and an original taxonomic proposal that allows the definition and categorization of this new genre in the context of non-fiction. The thesis describes the main context in which this format develops – the web – and distinguishes it from conventional forms of interactive documentary and non-fiction.
