Anabel Espinosa at the Silent Manga Festival.
The contest is one of the most important in the world of comics today. Being a great opportunity to work with comic professionals from Japan (or work there). Moreover, if you are fortunate enough to rank among the best in the contest, not only do you have opportunities within Japan, but as a professional, you are recognized internationally. It becomes much easier for you to publish in editorials or establish yourself in the industry.
Anabel tells us about her participation in the contest: “I entered the seventh edition with the theme ‘Unforgettable taste.’ I created a script based on the idea of the taste that delicious ‘trompetes de la mort’ mushrooms, so typical of our Catalan gastronomy, provide me. From there, I created the story of a hermit from Montseny who seeks something to eat to survive. The trumpets are the main protagonists, as the story itself (including the unexpected ending) is a mix of the sensation of the mushroom’s taste. In addition to the fusion of the era in which it can be found, giving it a ‘magical’ feeling to the final result. Thus, leaving doubts about who the girl the protagonist encounters really is.
With this script and drawing, I received a special mention in the “Award candidate” category of the contest. It is not an award, but it is a special recognition from the jury, which, as I mentioned before, can help the contestant establish themselves in the industry.” You can view Anabel’s projects at: http://belflora.zukate.com/en Congratulations, Anabel!
